Initiated by a large donation from a long-time resident
of the City and matched by City funds, Concordia was inspired
to undertake the design of an outdoor aquatic facility.
At the suggestion of a City Council member, Concordia made
the decision to contract for qualifications-based, design/build
services. After the development of preliminary design plans,
the City awarded Larkin, teamed with Raven Construction,
the design/build contract.
Concordia is a growing community in western Missouri.
The construction of an aquatic facility was sought out
as a way to invest in the community in order to stimulate
economic development and to adequately compete with surrounding
communities that already enjoy the benefits of owning similar
outdoor facilities.
The facility is located within an existing park next to
ball fields. Construction was complete on this $1.7 million
facility in May of 2001.
