INDOOR RECREATION CENTER
Lawrence, Kansas
Larkin Aquatics designed this state-of-the art indoor facility, which includes separate competition and leisure pools, locker rooms, office space, meeting rooms and a concession area.
Conveniently located doors connect the competition/ training pool and the leisure pool, allowing patrons to easily pass from one pool to another. Each pool environment is individually maintained so that leisure pool temperatures are higher than the competition pool temperatures. An elevated spectator area, adjacent to the competition pool, is kept at comfortable humidity and temperature levels for patrons observing competitive events.
The competition/training pool offers 25-yard and 50-meter lanes for competition. One- and three-meter diving boards are integrated with a SCUBA training section. The leisure pool area features an open flume slide, a floatable walk obstacle course, a children’s slide, sprayground areas, floatable play features, zero depth entry, therapeutic bench seats, lap lanes, and a concession area.
Total project cost was $9.6 million.
