Garden City Municipal Pool
Garden City, Missouri
Larkin Aquatics spent time with the Garden City community educating the citizens on the new pool project. A questionaire distributed to the general public assisted in site selection, design goals, and identified the overall desire for a swimming pool - the first one for Garden City. The project was funded by a bond issue with an overwhelming 76% approval.
The facility was designed with a tight-budget in mind so cost-saving efforts were taken into consideration. For example, to cut costs without sacrificing quality, the bathhouse/concession building is a pre-fabricated building with ample space for an office, admissions, changing rooms, and concessions. Viewed as the foundation of the project, the pool is modest in size and features with the ability to add more later.
Features to be phased in later include floatables and a waterslide. Anchors and below deck piping are included int he initial construction so these items can be purchased and installed without an additional design effort. Also, the City has plans for a lazy river addition in the near future.
