OUTDOOR AQUATIC CENTER

Indianola, Iowa

The citizens of the City of Indianola, Iowa, had a vision – a fun pool offering an assortment of activities for the entire family. Larkin Aquatics evaluated Indianola's existing rectangular swimming pool, which had deteriorated from years of use. The estimated cost of a renovation, combined with the fact that the existing pool would not accommodate the City's needs, prompted the decision to replace the existing facility with a new aquatic center.

Larkin created an innovative three-pool design that offers exercise, competition and family fun. The children's activity pool has numerous play features. The new facility also includes a bathhouse, near the children's pool with dressing rooms, a concession area and administration and control areas. There is also a separate filter and chemical building. Site development for the project included the design of additional parking.

Larkin Aquatics worked with the City's pool committee to educate and inform the citizens about the proposed pool. A bond issue for more than $2 million was passed to fund the facility.
