REPLACEMENT AQUATIC CENTER
AND SPRAYGROUND
Mason City, Iowa
The citizens of Mason City had a vision - a fun pool offering an assortment of activities for the entire family. Larkin Aquatics was hired to make that vision a reality. Our engineers met with a planning committee to discuss new goals for their facility, which included major renovation to their swimming pool and adding exciting water park style features. The estimated cost of a renovation, combined with the fact that the existing pool would not accommodate the City's vision, prompted the decision to replace the existing facility with a new aquatic center.
Larkin Aquatics created an innovative three-pool design that offers exercise, competition and family fun. “The Music Man” theme water park will have numerous play features including a splash playground area with customized instrument sprayground features and piano keys painted in the zero-depth area. The more adventurous patrons will enjoy zipping down one of the two waterslides, which empty into a plunge pool. The new facility will also include a bathhouse, near the children's pool with dressing rooms, and a grass bathing area and concession area.
To fund the facility, the community voted on a bond referendum and a bond issue was passed with 72% of the votes. Now in the final design phase, construction will begin in August 2002.
