WAKEFIELD COMMUNITY POOL
Wakefield, Nebraska
The City of Wakefield's existing pool was over 25 years old and was in need of a makeover. A low-dive was the only feature. The City hired the team of Larkin Aquatics and Christiansen Construction to provide a design/build project. The plan for a new facility began with a meeting between the design/build team and the pool committee. During the meeting, committee members focused on the features they desired to create a final concept plan. Once the concept plan was approved, a price was agreed upon, and construction documents were developed. While construction documents were being created by Larkin Aquatics, the existing pool was demolished and Christiansen Construction began getting the site ready for the new construction.
The new pool facility was designed with consideration for all age groups. Lap lanes were included for lap swimmers and shallow water play features will replace the traditional baby wading pool for toddlers. A waterslide has been included to promote water play to the older kids.
The community park site chosen was the site of the existing pool. this site is unique due to the premier ball park that greets hundreds of visitors a year. Taking advantage of this highly visible site, the new pool will be a popular attraction in this park.
The City was able to obtain grant funds to help pay for part of the project, along local fund raising efforts.
